Universal Genève Polerouter – Genta Design with Aviation Heritage from 1966

The Universal Genève Polerouter, introduced in 1954, is one of the most iconic designs by a young Gérald Genta, created at just 24 years old. Developed in collaboration with Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), the Polerouter was engineered to withstand the strong magnetic fields encountered on polar flight routes — a true innovation of its time.

The interest gained significantly and these models have become highly sought after, especially following the revival and reissue of Universal Genève under new ownership by Breitling. This renewed attention has brought the historic importance and design excellence of the Polerouter back into the spotlight.

This 1966 stainless steel example features a striking black dial with a beautifully contrasting mirrored steel chapter ring, giving the watch depth and a refined, technical aesthetic. The balanced proportions and clean design make it one of the most versatile vintage watches ever produced.
